Sustainable manufacturing in Industry 4.0: an emerging research agenda

This systematic review intends to identify how sustainable manufacturing research is contributing to the development of the Industry 4.0 agenda and for a broader understanding about the links between the Industry 4.0 and Sustainable Manufacturing by mapping and summarising existing research efforts, identifying research agendas, as well as gaps and opportunities for research development. A conceptual framework formed by the principles and technological pillars of Industry 4.0, sustainable manufacturing scope, opportunities previously identified, and sustainability dimensions, guided analysis of 35 papers from 2008–2018, selected by a systematic approach. Bibliometrics data and social network analysis complement results identifying how research is being organised and its respective research agendas, relevant publications, and status of the research lifecycle. Results point to that the current research is aligned with the goals defined by different national industrial programs. There are, however, research gaps and opportunities for field development, becoming more mature and having a significant contribution to fully developing the agenda of Industry 4.0

Os Sistemas de Gestão em Segurança e Saúde no Trabalho em Auxílio à Prevenção de Acidentes e Doenças Ocupacionais

É cada vez mais notória a necessidade das organizações em inserir boas práticas de segurança e higiene ocupacional, pois além de serem importantes para evitar acidentes e garantir a saúde dos trabalhadores, tem como “produtos” a motivação e o comprometimento dos colaboradores. O objetivo da atual pesquisa é identificar a importância dos sistemas de gestão no auxílio à prevenção de acidentes e doenças ocupacionais, tendo como base a análise da composição dos principais sistemas de gestão em segurança e saúde e principais normas referentes ao tema, tais como a OHSAS 18001 e o BS 8800. Para tanto foi realizado uma análise da composição desses dois sistemas e a forma que as inspeções podem ser utilizadas nas organizações a fim de identificar os perigos e contribuir para a proteção da saúde dos trabalhadores. Como resultado obteve-se a relevância dos parâmetros pró-ativos frente aos parâmetros de sinistralidade, comumente utilizados nas organizações para fins de segurança no trabalho. Pode-se observar que tais parâmetros pró-ativos incentivam a busca das causas dos problemas, controlando não apenas os acidentes, mas verificando a conformidade das atividades de controle da SST da organização.DOI: 10.5585/rgss.v1i2.2

Additive manufacturing from the sustainability perspective: proposal for a self-assessment tool

Emergent technologies and additive manufacturing have a significant role in shaping the future of manufacturing, enabling companies to produce complex products and parts in a more efficient and sustainable way. However, companies are struggling to identify and achieve the full potential of the technology from a sustainability perspective. The purpose of this paper is to develop a checklist to assess the sustainability performance of additive manufacturing adoption and exploitation, based on secondary data from the academic literature, technical reports, and company cases. Results rely on the identification of critical sustainability aspects for additive manufacturing and key performance indicators

Reviewing Digital Manufacturing concept in the Industry 4.0 paradigm

Digitalization of manufacturing is once again on the industry application research agenda and Digital Manufacturing plays a fundamental role in this process. However, there is a lack of commonality in the literature about the purpose of Digital Manufacturing. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the concept and application domain of Digital Manufacturing considering the increasingly established Industry 4.0 paradigm. Based on a content analysis concepts are framed, and new technological characteristics identified. The paper contributes to a better understanding of the future challenges that companies face by positioning Digital Manufacturing conceptually and delimiting its application domain

The study of performance indicators from the organizational strategic management approach

With increased competition in the industrial area, improvement of strategic management within organizations is fundamental. Performance indicators support organizational strategic managing, since besides monitoring the company as a whole, they assist with decision-making and developing action plans to better satisfy clients. The objective of the present article is to discuss the process of building performance indicators using Slack’s matrix analysis (2002) and its use in organizational strategic management. To do this, a case study was carried out in a project engineering company, where performance indicators were developed in the supply division. The study was structured into hour stages, and resulted not only in the implementation of new formalized indicators to improve support for the company’s competitive strategy, but also the development of manager competencies to create an integrated performance model, which research has shown to be a critical factor for organizational progres

Qual o significado de valor? Uma abordagem baseada em diferentes perspectivas

The research related to the development and value concept involves different areas of knowledge and is characterized by a temporal course associated with the genesis and evolution of economic systems. A significant number of studies in this area over the years has been directed to purely economic aspects, particularly with regards to the analysis of value creation by organizations. This article aims to revisit the concept of value through economic-social paradigm by using a literature review based on different disciplines that contribute to conceptually define the determinants of value creation. It was observed that corporate sustainability and operations engineering techniques have been widely studied in recent years, with sustainability being referenced as "intangible value", as well as credibility and organizational reputation. This research contributed verifying sustainability as one of the key concepts in the strategic agenda of organizations and an important guidance on value creation and maintaining long-term business.A pesquisa relacionada ao desenvolvimento e conceituação de valor envolve diferentes áreas do conhecimento e é caracterizada por um desenrolar temporal associado à gênese e evolução dos sistemas econômicos. Um número significativo de estudos nessa área ao passar dos anos tem sido direcionado a aspectos puramente econômicos, principalmente no que se refere à análise de criação de valor pelas organizações. O presente artigo tem como objetivo revisitar o conceito de valor por meio do paradigma econômico-social e utiliza de uma revisão de literatura fundamentada em diferentes disciplinas que contribuem para definir conceitualmente os determinantes da criação de valor. Observa-se que a sustentabilidade empresarial e as técnicas relacionadas à gestão de operações vêm sendo muito estudadas nos últimos anos, sendo a sustentabilidade considerada de “valor intangível”, porém elevado, tanto quanto valores de credibilidade e reputação organizacional. O trabalho contribui na identificação e conceituação dos determinantes da criação de valor, além de verificar que a sustentabilidade é um dos conceitos fortes na agenda estratégica das organizações e uma importante orientação para criação e manutenção de valor em uma perspectiva de longo prazo
